Alright – I’m starting to feel like I’ve hit the these-weeks-are-really-flying-by stage! I checked my blog calendar to see what I was posting for today and was like, wait, 16 weeks already?! It’s very exciting that things seem to be going quickly – for now.
Tuesday, I also mentioned that we are not having a nursery. Obviously, we will have a room for the baby. But not obviously is that it’s complicated right now. This is the room that will be the “nursery.”
It’s not very big and kind of awkward. It currently has a queen size bed in it and not a lot of room for much else. My original plan was to take everything out and start from scratch and create some beautiful but simple nursery like this.
I wanted to get a crib, a dresser for a changing table, and a glider. That’s it. However, we’ve totally scrapped that plan for a few reasons.
One: after the baby arrives, we will have visitors. My mom and sister, in-laws, and some close friends are going to travel to see the baby. If I moved all the furniture and got rid of the bed, I’d have no where to put people. And since some of these people will have an extended stay, I wouldn’t want them to be in a hotel. So, we need the bed to stay.
Two: we are most likely moving (across the country) a few months after the baby is born for my husband’s job. This is not news to us; we’ve known for a while. We just didn’t know it would be timed with the birth of our first child. It doesn’t make sense to me to decorate a room only to tear it down and have to redo it in just a few months.
Three: Because of all these things, it just doesn’t make sense to have some “perfect” nursery. It’s not going to be ideal to have a queen size bed in the room, but it could also be useful to switch off who takes care of the baby to sleep in the room. We also don’t want to purchase a lot of furniture or stuff only to move it and add to our move. The only furniture we will add is the crib.
This is another view of the room.
See how it’s awkward? 2 doors. The table in the middle I’m hoping will be big enough to be a temporary changing table while we make do. I might paint it white to make it match the crib, but most likely it will stay brown and we’ll get a new dresser for a changing table later if we have room.
It’s crazy to already be talking about the nursery, but I want to be prepared sooner than later. I mentioned that somone bought our crib for us. That someone was my dad! It actually came yesterday night – Target has FAST shipping! I didn’t open it yet, but here’s what it looks like.
I totally love it! So there you have it – we are not having an ideal nursery, but we are having a room that makes the most sense for what is going on in our life right now.
16 WEEK BUMPDATE
How I’m feeling: I am definitely feeling awesome now. I feel like I have way more energy, still not what I had, but so much better. Nausea seems to have mostly gone away unless I get very hungry. I think I’m getting in a better groove with snacking more often though and knowing how to eat for two.
I did get very dizzy/light headed the past 2 days at work. I think my pants were too tight, I was reacting bad to caffeine and didn’t eat enough or something. Feeling fine now though.
Weight gain: I finally checked this week and I am up 8 pounds. I think that is pretty decent considering my pre-pregnancy weight right now.
Every day I feel like my belly looks bigger and it kinda freaks me out, but I know it’s a good thing!
Maternity Clothes: Still loving and wearing, but I’m having a hard time with outfits lately. Since I got all those clothes from my co-worker, I realized I don’t really know how to match things yet since I just inherited this whole new wardrobe.
Things that I think will look good together sometimes don’t because of how they fit around my belly or just fit differently. I need to do some experimenting with bump fashion!
Here’s a pretty decent outfit from earlier in the week, though.
Sleep: lately, it’s been pretty awful. I get up to pee twice a night sometimes. I am having a lot of pregnancy-related nightmares too.
Fitness: I feel like I have really hit my stride. Last week I worked out 6 days.
I wanted to try running last week but it rained. This week, I didn’t feel it was a good idea with the light headed thing going on, but I’m hopeful that it will happen soon. My hope is to do a Turkey Trot again this year. I think I can train back up to that before Thanksgiving!
Gender: Check out the blog TOMORROW for our gender reveal
Craving: nothing in particular, I’m enjoying fruits and veggies again. Mexican or pizza always seems to sound good.
Food aversions: I am slowly warming back up to coffee. I still don’t want to have it every day, even if that sounded good. I can manage about 2 cups a week now without it making me sick, so that’s nice! I tried to eat tomato soup for lunch one day this week and was just like, nope and had to get something else.
Missing: normal, good sleep. Peeing less. Beer!
Purchased for Baby: this week, we got the crib and bedding I really want to pop into Carter’s and buy some clothes but I know I don’t need to!
Most looking forward to: getting the crib & setting it up, hopefully hearing the heartbeat again at my next appointment next week
Questions for You:
- Do you think society puts too much pressure on parents to have baby stuff, a nice nursery, etc?
- Are these posts too epicly long? Whoa that was a lot!
