Apple Pickin’ Fun

Hey! Hope you had a nice weekend :)

This weekend I went apple picking for the first time! I didn’t know what my expectations should be since I’d never gone, but it was a lot of fun. We went to a farm about 45 minutes West of us still in Massachusetts called Honey Pot Hill Orchards.

We couldn’t get there very early, so the place was packed by the time we got there. It was a beautiful day, though!

We had to take a hayride to get to a farther part of the orchard. I was quite amused ;)

On the hayride

The farm had a lot of different types of apples, but I was so excited that they had my favorite! Gala apples! Here’s a Gala apple tree with tons of good apples still left on it.

I ate one right after picking it from the tree. It was most definitely the most crisp apple I’ve ever had.

After filled up our bag, we headed over to the bakery to get an apple cider donut. I’ve had one that someone brought me, but never a fresh one, so I was excited to try it. However, the line was ridiculously long since it was about an hour until closing. Everyone had the same idea we did!

But, it was so worth the wait. They were hot and fresh when we got them. I devoured two of these little guys instantly!

After we got home, we got cookin’! We prepared apple crisp with my girlfriend’s apple corer thing that you attach to the counter. What a handy tool! It was so easy and fun to use.

Apple Crisp

The apple crisp was pretty good. Both the hubby and I thought it was not quite as good as we were expecting. We used this recipe but doubled the “crisp” part, which was a really good idea. Definitely a solid recipe, though.

I still have quite a few apples left and even some pears. I want to make apple butter, but I’m not sure if I actually have enough apples (or patience!). We’ll see.

Goals this Week

Since it’s Monday, I thought it’d be a good time to address some goals for the week. Lately, I’ve been feeling  a little overwhelmed, and I know it’s from a lack of being organized. I know in my head what I want to do, but at the end of the week, I find myself feeling really unhappy that I didn’t work toward much of what I wanted to do.

The past few weeks have been very lax for me in the healthy eating & fitness department. It’s always an effort to plan healthy meals or good workouts when I’ve been out of the loop for a while, but I’ve got to start somewhere.

This week my goals are to:

  • create and follow a truly healthy eating plan. Lately, I’ve been making meal plans and bailing on them or making not-so-healthy plans.
  • create a workout schedule that incorporates running at least 3 times. Running has been down to once a week these days. I miss it & I want to get back at it.
  • take time to relax & destress. I have been on social media too much, glued to my email or blog, never allowing myself enough space to rest. After dinner, I’m going no technology anything. I used to do this & it was great. Back at it again!

Here’s to a happy & healthy week!

Questions for You:

  • Did you go apple picking this weekend too? Seriously, everyone I know went this weekend!
  • Are apple desserts your thing? They’re definitely not my favorite, but I won’t turn one down.

  1. I’ve never been officially apple picking but my pastor and his wife have a green apple tree and when it’s a good year they let us come and get some. Apple desserts are my absolute FAVE!! even more than chocolate!! :)

  2. SO many people did go apple picking this weekend! Haha I haven’t been, but I really want to go! I made apple butter in the crock pot which was the way to go, for sure. I am sorry the apple crisp wasn’t as good as you hoped. I have never made it as I’m not a fan of warm apples. I have been pretty good at staying off Twitter and Facebook after dinner. Actually, I am slacking on the Twitter front. I just always feel like I have nothing to say, or no time to look!

  4. All of my friends went apple picking too this weekend! I was supposed to but ended up going to a fair instead. I guess the first day of fall is a popular day!

    • I caved and put mine out like the first week of September. Oops! I wish I was one of those people that loved summer but I’m def a fall/winter girl believe it or not.

  7. I have never been apple picking either! And come to think of it, I’ve never tasted an apple cider donut either. That sounds so delicious!!

Looks like you had a lovely time, what a great fall tradition!

    • I hadn’t either until this weekend! I don’t come from a fall-friendly area (Colorado) so all this “fall” stuff is new to me. I’d recommend trying both!

  8. I honestly dont think I have been apple picking since I was a kid. I do like apple desserts: apple crisp and apple pie. My mom makes an amazing apple cake too, that Is to die for.

  9. Sounds like you had a great time. I have never been apple picking. I have done just about every other picking except apples. That’s on my to do list now. I actually like apple desserts like you they aren’t my favorite by I never turn them down. I would totally have made some pies or apple chimichangas.

  10. I need one of those apple peelers! I wish we had apple orchards here in Texas but there aren’t any nearby. So sad!

  11. I just made applesauce with some honeycrisp apples (that I bought at a boring, regular grocery store) that is very tasty. In general, I do like apple desserts, but they’re not my favorite fruit. Berries – I’m all over.

I fully intend on going to an apple orchard this year now that I’ve read so many recaps of them! My first weekend of fall was work-filled and exhausting.

  13. I love apple picking! In fact, my husband and I went to my parents’ house over the weekend and we went apple picking in my dad’s orchard. Fresh apples are SO amazing! Oh my gosh…apple crisp!!! I really need to make that asap!

  14. create and follow a truly healthy eating plan.

That has also been on my goal list for probably 6 weeks now and I have failed to follow through for more than half a day. When will I start caring again?? In response to your question, I love apple things but I hate peeling them so I never eat them lol. You’re little peeler gadget would be a necessity for a project that! Looks delicious!
