Hello, New Year!
I hope you have the day off today and aren’t too exhausted from whatever you did last night. Admittedly, I went to dinner at 6 and was in bed by 9:30 after two Shirley Temples. 😉
Thanks to my sister who got me this lovely planner off my Christmas wish list. This should help with some goal setting for the year, for sure.
PEEKING INTO 2015
Truthfully, I had this whole crazy-long post written out about goals I have for 2015. I started out by saying that I didn’t want to make too many goals due to a baby on the way and moving later this year, but somehow ended up with a long list of goals that I didn’t intend to have. So I’m starting over and keeping it simple.
This year, I will…
- Give birth, become a mom and parent alongside my husband, & welcome a new family member into our life
- Leave my job to stay at home with baby
- Have lots of visitors after said family member arrives
- Move from Boston to the middle of no where Texas in the summer
When I think about fitting goals or resolutions into all that, I just get overwhelmed. It’s not that I don’t want to better myself or work toward things. It’s just that I realize how I am, and if I set goals but don’t have the capacity to reach them, I will get very disappointed.
I am going to go into 2015 with little expectations since my life will involve so much change. I don’t want to set fitness goals for after baby yet because I have no idea what kind of birth I’ll have or how recovery will be. I don’t want to set goals for myself as a mother or what I want staying at home to be like because I don’t know the circumstances of my birth, baby’s health, etc. I want to go into 2015 with an open mind and give myself a lot of grace instead of limit myself by trying to meet goals in such a busy year.
With that said, I do have a few small things I definitely want to do to make some changes, all of which are pre-baby related. I have been feeling pretty burnt out and like I have been ignoring my needs that seem to grow each day as I get further along in pregnancy and I know that needs to change.
My main focus before baby arrives is…
1. Focus on taking care of myself.
This means giving myself as much grace as possible. My pregnancy has been good but it’s still very humbling. I can’t do what I used to. The energy is just not there, but that’s okay. I want to go into the 3rd trimester and labor with a sense of peace and feel like I really took care of myself before the change of a baby comes.
For me, this will include more time with the Lord, focusing on healthy eating and exercise more, & starting my Hypnobabies home study.I haven’t mentioned much about this on my pregnancy updates, but I am going to attempt to have a hypnobaby birth. If you haven’t heard of it, just read the reviews for this all-natural childbirth method on Amazon – people rave about it. One of my friends also did this and had a great experience and recommended it to me.
The study involves 5 “classes” to work through in a work book and listening to hypnosis CDs once or twice a day until I give birth. Along with this, I’m going to read Ina May’s Guide to Natural Childbirth. I’ll definitely share how this is going in the coming weeks.
2. Clean out our basement & do a serious house purge.
We’re moving sometime this summer, so I know all the crazy amount of junk in our basement is going to get moved or tossed. I’d love to get this done before baby because I’m sure it’ll be a lot easier to do with my hands free. We’re going to try to get some of this done this weekend while we have the extra time off.
I also hope to super-clean the house soon before baby arrives so there is less cleaning to do once we bring her home & when visitors start coming in.
3. Finish my wedding scrapbook.
Yes, I have been married two and a half years and still haven’t finished this. But I know if I don’t finish this before baby, it’s basically destined to never get done!
I can think of a lot of other things I’d like to do before baby gets here or just in this year, but I’m going to call it a day and leave it at that. I only have 3 and a half more months until she arrives (or possibly less if she’s early!). I don’t want to cram too much into that time and feel overwhelmed right before baby.
These are all pretty doable to me and I feel good about putting myself first for this next trimester, as odd as it sounds to me. As the year progresses and I see how things turn out with the rest of my pregnancy, baby arriving, and moving, I will reassess things at the time and set goals then based on the circumstances instead of trying to set them now.
